Code Enforcement Training

The California Department of Public Health has developed a training for building department staff and code enforcement officers on how to identify substandard housing conditions that result in unhealthy homes. Approximately 400 people have been trained so far.

Attendees of these trainings learn about:
  • applicable enforcement authority for pest infestation, lead paint hazards, dampness and mold, and ventilation;
  • the use of integrated pest management;
  • how to identify and order remediation for lead paint hazards
  • how to identify and order remediation for other substandard housing issues that pose a health risk for residents
