Asthma Disparities

Grant Program

Grants Supporting the Elimination of Asthma Disparities

One of the primary ways California Breathing addresses asthma disparities is through the awarding of grants to community-based organizations around the State.  The   program has  awarded   thirty-four grants from the 2004 - 2007 with grants ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 per year.  Funded programs have focused on providing asthma education and awareness interventions in underserved populations.  They represent the geographical and racial diversity of the state of California.  The last two grant cycles (2006-2007) have focused on addressing asthma disparities among African Americans in California.  All funded activities align with goals and objectives laid out in the Strategic Plan for Asthma in California 2002-2007 and the Strategic Plan for California 2008-2012.

Current Funding-Strategic Plan Implementation Grants (SPIG) 2010- Due JUNE 3.

Applications are now being accepted for SPIG 2010. During this two-year grant cycle, organizations working on goal 4.B (Childcare) and goal 5 (outdoor environments) of the Strategic Plan for Asthma in California will be eligible. To have the greatest impact on reducing disparities, funded child care initiatives will focus on Head Start/Early Head Start participants.  Outdoor Environment funding should focus on people disproportionately burdened by poor air quality. There will be two informational conference calls:
May 11, 1:00 pm --Outdoor Environments
May 18, 1:00 pm --Child care Environments (Head Start/Early Head Start)
