ASTHMA DATA & SURVEILLANCE

California Breathing maintains a surveillance system for the purpose of analyzing and disseminating data related to asthma. This data can be used to increase understanding of the impact of asthma as well as to guide the planning and evaluation of asthma interventions. CB collaborates with stakeholders throughout the state to determine asthma data needs at the state, county, and community levels. To learn more, go to California Breathing Asthma Surveillance Overview or visit the other pages in this section of our website.

NEW ASTHMA DATA:
Please see our most recent asthma surveillance resource, California Asthma Facts: Asthma Emergency Department (ED) Visits, Results from 2005-2007 . This fact sheet describes recent data on asthma ED visits by age, sex, race/ethnicity, month of admission, and source of payment. Another recent report--Asthma Mortality Varies in Asian and Hispanic Race/Ethnic Groups--describes asthma death rates among Hispanic and Asian subgroups and how the differences in these rates are masked when they are combined into single groups.

For a comprehensive report that brings together all available asthma data in the state, please see our publication The Burden of Asthma in California.
